Duplicate Rules and Matching Rules
Duplicate Rules
A duplicate rule is the criteria that decides what needs to be done when a duplicate record is found, and Duplicate Rules are used in matching rules to control when and where to find duplicates.
Matching rule
A matching rule helps define how duplicate records are identified in duplicate rules and duplicate jobs. The matching rule is the criteria that identifies a record as a duplicate.
Salesforce provides with three standard matching rules and Duplicate Rules
Accounts;
Contacts and Leads,
Person accounts.
First, we should activate the matching rules, and then activate the duplicate rule to find the duplicate records for those particular objects.
The following steps are to find the duplicate value in the records:
Creating matching rule:
Step 1: From Setup, use the Quick Find box to find Matching Rules and select New Rules and select Object

Step 2: Enter the rule details, including a name, description and Enter the matching criteria.

Step 3: Click the save the button and then activate the matching rule, then we will get the message like,

Step 4: The matching rule has been activated for the Account Object.

Duplicate Rules:
Step 5: From Setup, use the Quick Find box to find Duplicate Rules and the select object of “ Account”

Step 6: Enter the rule details, including a name, description and Select the field mapping for each matching rule

The Duplicate rule has been activated

Finally, we can find the duplicate value in Account records
Go to the Account object, then create or update any of the same fields, we are not able to create or update the records.
